Hello, my name is Kiera. I am a 21-year-old music major at the University of North Alabama. My primary instrument is clarinet. Despite being a woodwind player, it has always been a dream of mine to march with DCI. DCI is professional marching band that only marches percussion, colorguard, and brass. There is an age limit which is 21 or younger, meaning this is the last year I could ever do it. When I was a freshman in high school, Carolina Crown performed Beast on my field but because I had to babysit my younger siblings, I was unable to attend their performance. I have never seen a drum corps live. Ever since then, I decided that one year I would march with a corps. The older I got and the more I put off learning a new instrument, I thought it was too late for me and I would never get to do it. That was until I got the opportunity to switch to tuba this year at my university. I picked it up pretty quickly and started auditioning. I did not make the first two corps I auditioned for, but then I finally got a contact from Music City Drum Corps. I am hoping to raise enough money to help me achieve my dream of marching DCI this summer. My tuition is $5,500, as well as rent for my apartment while I am gone. I have already spent thousands of dollars with the help of my dad and grandma. Anything is greatly appreciated. I am currently getting my degree in music and a master's in music education. I want to teach marching band, and this experience will help me tremendously with developing the skills to play and teach a wide variety of instruments and marching techniques.
