Hi. My name is Jono and the reason I'm here today is to set up a fundraiser to financially assist my brother Jason and my sister in law Helen, as they go through a very turbulent time.
Jason, Helen and their 3 children Leo 13 , Ray 5 and their youngest daughter Remi 3 live in Old Colwyn. Jason works as a support worker and Helen is Social Inclusion Manager at Crest.
In April of this year, their perfect family bubble was shattered when they given the worst news that any parents could ever wish for. They were told that their 3 year old, my niece Remi, has Osteosarcoma.
Osteosarcoma is kind of cancer that begins in the cells that form bones. It tends to happen most often in teenagers and young adults. But it also can happen in younger children and older adults. It is very rare that it happens in infants.
Needless to say this news was devastating and has had a profound effect on the whole family.
Their next 6 months will consist of chemotherapy sessions for Remi and continuous checks that go hand in hand with the monitoring of Remi and how she responds to treatment.
This process involves often travelling back and forth to different hospitals like Glan Clwyd, Alder Hay in Liverpool and the specialist cancer hospital in Birmingham.
Although it's not been confirmed 100% yet, little Remi will also require surgery to amputate her leg to ensure the Cancer doesn't spread.
The reality of this and the schedule is very alarming as both Jason and Helen take turns to ensure Remi is treated as and when necessary, always on the move trying to do their best for her whilst at the same time making sure their 2 other boys are cared for as best they can, retaining as much normality as possible.
And of course all this travelling doesn't come cheap. And to top it off they have also just had to raise funds for a car when their old one decided to give up on them.
Understandably, Jason and Helen have had to take leave from their work in order to ensure Remi and the rest of the family are appropriately cared for during this tempestuous time and any funds raised here will go towards their increasing costs of living, and the cost of travelling backwards and forwards to the different hospitals.
As a family we thank you for taking the time to read about my beautiful niece Remi's story and hope that you can help in anyway possible. Your support means the world to us. Thank you.
