Hello friends and family,
In the summer of 2022, I sensed that God was calling me away from Vancouver, Canada to go and serve in Fresno, California. It was not until this June that I followed that call and moved into the inner city here. Fresno County is located in the heart of California with about 1 million residents. As of 2022, the poverty rate here is at 20.6%, which is about double the rate of California's poverty rate.
My initial plan was to stay here for the summer on an internship with a church-based, community outreach non-profit. But, once August came around, a new opportunity presented itself in the form of a ministry house, called the Pink House.
I now live in the heart of this city with my roommate, Lorenzo, and a cohort of other like-minded Christ followers. This program is a direct answer to the questions and stirrings in my heart that I have felt towards injustice, brokenness, and poverty in our world, but more specifically, our neighborhoods. In my month and a half here so far, my worldview has been challenged, my understanding of and relationship with God has grown, and my awareness for where justice must be realized has increased.
As a part of this program, our group meets once a week for dinner and class with a local leader who shares their perspective knowledge on any of the program's core learning objectives: Biblical Justice, Intentional Community, and/or Leadership Development. Soon, we will be individually partnered to volunteer with local Christ-based organizations that help to meet their community's needs. Lastly, our group will be going to (and volunteering at) both the CCDA Conference, held in Cincinnati, this October and the CCO Jubilee Conference, held in Pittsburgh, this February. Both of these events are incredible opportunities to learn more about biblical justice and Christian community.

As for me, my hope is that by investing into my year here, you would ultimately be investing in the Fresno community and wherever else the Lord might want me to serve in the future.
