Fundraising in Memory of my Dad and our brother Smith

My name is Frank Jordan. I’m 29 years old, a recent master’s graduate, and currently working part-time as a teacher here in Berlin. Life has tested me in ways I could never have prepared for. Two years ago, I lost my mother—a loss that still weighs heavily on me. And now, I find myself grieving once again, after the passing of my father.

My dad, Segun Ogabi, passed away on 21 May 2025, at the age of 76. He died at Jüdisches Krankenhaus in Berlin after a long, painful struggle with liver cancer and cirrhosis.

He came to Germany many years ago in search of peace and stability. But without legal documentation, he was unable to access proper medical care or secure steady work. The challenges he faced were enormous, and over time, the weight of it all took a toll on his health and spirit.

My father lived quietly and privately. He never spoke much about his past or family back in Nigeria, and even now, I’ve been unable to trace any relatives. I’ve tried reaching out to possible contacts on social media, but it has led nowhere. The truth is, he was my only family here, and now I am alone in trying to honour his memory and lay him to rest.

I had hoped to take his body back to Nigeria for a traditional burial, but with no access to extended family and limited resources, that isn’t possible. What I want now is to give him a respectful farewell here in Berlin—the best I can offer.

The estimated cost for the funeral and related expenses is around €6,000. This covers the burial and arrangements, including a small service. While I’m not yet certain about the hospital’s final billing (as Jüdisches Krankenhaus may or may not issue a charge), I am preparing for possible outstanding medical costs as well. Unfortunately, my part-time teaching job doesn’t come close to covering these expenses, and I have no family support to lean on.

So I’m asking for help, from friends, strangers, and anyone who understands what it’s like to lose a parent and carry the weight of that loss alone. Every amount donated will go directly toward the funeral and any related costs. I’ll be fully transparent with how everything is used and will update you all with invoices and evidence after the funeral.

If you’re not able to donate, I completely understand. A simple share of this message on your social media could help it reach someone who can.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Thank you to those who’ve already shown kindness and stood by me during the hardest chapter of my life. Your compassion means more than I can express.

With all my heart,
Frank Jordan
