Fundraising in memory of James Casey

Donation protected
On behalf of James’ immediate and extended family, we would like your help in raising money for the Cork University Hospital (CUH) children’s ward, in memory of James Casey who passed away at 3 years old from a brain tumor.

James was born on the 1st of October 2002. His parents Sylvia and Trevor noticed after a few months that something was wrong. At 18 months old, he was sent to the hospital where a brain scan revealed a massive brain tumor lodged near James’ brain stem. He was rushed to the CUH, where a team of six doctors were waiting for him. He went straight to surgery for shunts to relieve pressure from his brain. A week later, doctors operated again to remove most of the tumor and after a period of time he was left home. Subsequent scans showed he was making a remarkable recovery.

However, 18 months later James’ symptoms returned again. Doctors confirmed their worst fears that the tumor was growing again. James underwent another brain surgery on the 9th of February 2006, where he later died at 3 years old, after being moved to the Turtle ward in the CUH.

The neurosurgeon, doctors and nurses deserve all the credit and praise for keeping James alive for us for those 18 months in which he had a great quality of life and we gained great memories with him.

As James would have been turning 21 this October the 1st, our family wanted to mark this special occasion.

On September the 30th 2023 in the Glen Hurling and football club, Cork. James’ uncle Sean who has been growing his hair for the last 5 years and is 20 inches in length, his beard is 7 inches in length and he has been growing it for the last 8 years. To the delight of many people, Sean will be shaving both off on the night. All donations raised will provide much needed funds for the children and parents in the children’s ward, CUH, as during James' short life he spent a lot of his time in the turtle ward.

Any donation, big or small, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read James’ story.
