Beloved members of the community,
My name is Caresse Po, and I am a high school student from Santa Clara, California. As reported by the CDC on June 19, 2020, there have been approximately 8.2 million total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the world. Many of our friends and family have not had the chance to best communicate with their loved ones in person. Any of us could be in this situation, terribly disconnected from our friends and family. The integral, unique connection between each individual patient and their friends and family members is essential to those patients who are unable to receive visitors. The goal of this fundraiser is to better the mental health of patients through love and support by allowing them to keep in touch with their close family and friends during their isolation.
From my personal experience volunteering at a local hospital, every human interaction, from volunteer greeters to patient visitors, is an invaluable component of healthcare. Nonetheless, I am inspired by an article that I read, published on April 9, 2020, regarding an infected nursing home patient who used technology to communicate with her sister, as that was their only possible way of contact.
In order to make this happen, my friends and I are raising funds to install interactive smart devices, such as Amazon Echo Show 5's allowing patients to connect with their loved ones virtually. Additionally, after this pandemic, the devices can be kept for long-term usage, such as in nursing homes and hospital rooms to improve the experience for future patients.
In addition to this, we have decided to help doctors and nurses on the front-line. To do this, we are have purchased UV sanitisers and have donated them to Mills-Peninsula Hospital.
100% of your charity will go towards relieving those who are not only the most vulnerable at this time but the most isolated. It would be remarkable if you could consider making a donation in support of this cause, as each donation of any value is extremely impactful. Nobody should be fighting alone.
