My name is Caitlyn McLaggan — but most people call me Kat. I’m 14, nearly 15, and Scouting has become one of the most important parts of my life.
When I first joined Scouts, I never imagined how much it would shape me. Since then, I’ve earned my Chief Scout’s Gold Award and completed my Six Summits Award — a 40-mile hiking challenge that pushed me further than I thought I could go. Those achievements mean a lot to me, not just because of the effort, but because of what they represent: perseverance, growth, and believing in myself even when it’s hard.
I’m now part of Warwickshire Unit 64, selected to attend the 2027 Polish Jamboree with the UK contingent. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Scouts from around the world, share experiences, and be part of something truly global.
But for me, this journey means something even deeper.
I struggle with my mental health and anxiety, and fundraising hasn’t been easy because of that. Putting myself out there can feel overwhelming. But Scouting has always been my safe space — a place where I feel accepted, supported, and understood. It’s helped me through some of my hardest moments, and honestly, it’s played a huge part in saving my life.
That’s why going to Poland matters so much to me. I want to represent not just my unit or my country, but what Scouting stands for. I want to show others that it can be a place of belonging, strength, and hope — just like it has been for me.
Alongside the amazing friends I’ve made, who mean the world to me, I hope to take this next step together. We’ve shared so many memories already, and the idea of experiencing the Jamboree as a group is something really special.
I’m working hard to raise the money I need to go, even though it’s challenging for me. Any support, no matter how small, would mean more than I can fully put into words. It’s not just helping me get to Poland — it’s helping me continue a journey that has already changed my life.
Thank you for being part of it.
