Fundraising for Squidges Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
Hello to all who are reading this.
My name is Dez, and I'm opening this GoFundMe to try and raise funding for the treatment of my cat and her splenic cancer.
As some of you reading this may already know, on May 1st, I brought Squidge into her vet for a check up, as I had begun to notice Squidge losing weight relatively quickly and it had became concerning.
Squidges vet, upon physical examination, did not take long to notice a significant change in her spleen and took immediate concern to her health.
"Squidge has developed cancer in her spleen."
Back in early 2024, Squidge had a mass removed from her chin, which turned out to be Melanocystic Neoplasia, an aggressive form of cancer we were lucky to remove with clean but narrow margins. We do believe this is related.
On May 14th, 2025 we begin diagnostics. She goes under for her first of her testing, an abdominal ultrasound.
Her ultrasound will cost approximately $855.
We are praying with all hope that this will give us the news we need - That Squidges cancer has not metastasized.
If we get this good news, then the next steps are a possible biopsy and a for sure Splenectomy.
Splenectomies are dangerous. Spleens are a highly bloody organ, with a high risk of hemorrhaging, and as such, she needs to be seen by a board certified Surgeon. They have blood product available on site for transfusion if necessary.
The good news is that cats do not need spleens to live healthy lives.
The hard part, is that her Splenectomy is estimated to range within the $8,000-$10,000 range, due to the need for a specialist and for blood product to be available.
I often call Squidge "The Love of my Life". She has been by my side since 2016, with love so unconditional, so kind, and so pure. We rescued her from an animal hoarding situation in a trailer, and I bonded with her the moment I met her. That first night, she slept with her face pressed against mine, and I knew she was my soul-animal. There has not been a moment that's passed in my life in the last 9 years that she hasn't been by my side for. From every celebration, to every heart break, and every breath in-between. Every moment of sadness, she has been there to rub her face against my cheek and purr, because she knows. From the loss of my grandfather, to marrying my husband, she has been there, and if it were up to me, she would be by my side for the rest of my life and for every mile stone marked. But we know thats not possible. What we do know, is that there's a possibility of another 5-10 years if we can get her through this though.
Squidge has been strong for me when I couldn't be. She has been my ground, my shoulder to lean on, and the one solid that got me through many years of being alone, and many moments of grief and turmoil. It is my turn, in her time of sickness and weakness, to be strong for her, to help her, and to do everything in my power to take care of and comfort her. Even as I write this, she sits on my chest and purs.
I know this is a big monetary amount to ask for, but every penny helps. I am only aiming to raise about half of the expected cost of her care plan in order to try and lift some of the financial weight of her Splenectomy. I'm by no means expecting a free ride through this process, but Squidge and I would be so beyond grateful to anybody willing to donate even just $5 to her treatment.
I will be certain to update everyone through every stage of the process and with every update I get, and this GoFundMe is not the only route i am taking to fund her surgery, so I will be sure to update as every route makes progress.
If you made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read through. This has been a very disheartening and heartbreaking time in our lives.
