Fundraising for Semester at Sea Fall 2022 Voyage!

Hello, my name is Madelyn Ocaña, I’m a second year Applied Mathematics major at UCSB and I am going on the Fall 2022 voyage of Semester at Sea. I feel so incredibly thankful to have this amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for so many reasons. For starters, I have always dreamed of traveling the world and gaining a more global perspective. After I get my BS I plan on attending graduate school and starting my career, I may never have a chance to go on an adventure like this ever again. I also love this program because while I explore these amazing places I also get to further my education outside of the classroom. While I’ll be in my classes on the ship, I will also be learning first-hand about all of these countries’ histories and cultures. All of these countries are so unique, I am so excited to experience them all. I also love that I will practice how to balance my workload on Semester at Sea. While being on a boat is so incredible and fun, I put my schoolwork first always and will put 100% of my effort into my schooling and learning before my fun. I also plan on getting a job while on board to help pay for tuition. Being able to balance all of this is a great skill that will definitely help me in my future endeavors. While Semester at Sea is so incredible, it also comes at a great cost. I am so thankful to my parents for giving me this opportunity and always supporting me and my dreams, but they cannot do it alone. I’m applying for every scholarship I qualify for but I would greatly appreciate any help I can get in paying for tuition. Anything donated will strictly go towards my tuition, I will be paying for all my on-shore excursions and adventures. Thank you so much and I will be posting daily about my adventures and education so that others may experience this with me.
