Fundraising for School Computers and Internet

Hi, my name is Jairo I. Fúnez-Flores, and I am fundraising for school computers and internet. The school is located in a rural campesino/peasant village in Southern Honduras where I was raised before immigrating to the United States. Due to years of systematic exclusion and state abandonment of rural areas, schools find themselves in complete deterioration, with no books, computers, or internet.

Electricity was first installed in my village in 2005, and access to the internet, which was only made available in 2021, is still very limited (only a few houses have access to the internet through a local provider). The internet speed is slow (4.0 Mbps), but it is enough to search the web. Having internet installed at the local school would help students have access to digital books and information they would not have otherwise. Since the school does not have a library or any books at all, having access to the internet and digital books would greatly assist in this regard.

As a former elementary teacher and current educational researcher, I plan to contribute by collaboratively working with teachers to create digital literacy workshops that also involve the community.

Although I recognize that fundraising does not structurally change the reality of Honduras, I still find it urgent to help my community in any way I can while also seeking funds from other institutions in Honduras. In any case, our community greatly appreciates your help and solidarity.
