My friend’s daughter, Sarah Shimizu, is 17 years old and is living in Irvine, California with her parents and younger sister, Amy. Sarah attended Eastshore Elementary School, Lakeside Middle School, and currently is a student of Woodbridge High School in Irvine. She is a great athlete and had been doing figure skating competitively since she was 4 years old. She’s also been doing track and field at Woodbridge High School. She is one of the top achievers in academics, especially in science. Currently she’s been in a serious medical condition since Spring 2017 called focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), which required a kidney transplant surgery. Her mom, Mayumi, was a matching donor and it was done in June 2018 successfully, but after a while, the doctors realized that her original kidney disease came back in her new kidney. The doctor attempted several different types of advanced medications for her in UCLA Medical Center since July, and she was on plasmapheresis for several months. Now Sarah and Mayumi are in Wilmington, Delaware, away from home, to receive the special treatment hoping to put the disease into remission. They’re staying in Delaware for 3 weeks and after that they will travel to Delaware once a week for a period of 6 weeks. Let’s help and support their medical, travel expenses and the family to stay together.
