Fundraising for Palestine Medical Aid - 100km walk
We are Sahana and Athirai, 2 medical students from London with the hope of raising money for the Charity Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). On July 1st, we will embark on a challenging journey to walk 100km between us around London in a single day, to raise funds for MAP.
The current atrocities occurring in Palestine are inhumane- over 1.7 million people have been displaced in Gaza, with homes, hospitals and other facilities being constantly under attack. Necessities such as food, water and medicine have been scarce, leading people to have to survive in extreme circumstances. Our aim is to raise money for a frontline charity working in Palestine- the Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).
MAP are one of the few international organisations currently providing humanitarian and medical services. They offer immediate medical aid to those in great need, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system. Since October, MAP has delivered over $9 million USD worth of aid to Gaza, including $4.3 million USD worth of medical items such as antibiotics and pain relief.
They have also organised six emergency medical teams with the International Rescue Committee to help treat injuries and infections amongst Palestinians. They have worked in a number of hospitals around Gaza, including Al Aqsa Hospital, delivering over 1200 consultations and 360 surgeries. Currently, 8000 children under the age of 5 are suffering from acute malnutrition in Gaza - to combat this, they have also launched a nutrition programme to protect over 150000 people whom are at risk of malnutrition.
MAP is advocating for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and is urging Israel to end its siege on Gaza. This would allow essential supplies such as food, water, fuel, electricity, and medical and shelter supplies to enter and be safely distributed to those in need. They are also calling on the UK and other governments to suspend arms transfers to Israel to prevent their use in further atrocities, particularly in Rafah.
We would greatly appreciate any donations, thank you!
