Hi, my name is Jonathan and I’m fundraising for support in my studies as Im currently studying a Masters in Drama and Movement Therapy. I was able to complete a degree in Drama, Applied theatre and Performance in 2021 whilst having 2 kids. Whilst I was studying I was able to work to look after my family and was able to receive funding to help with living costs , travel and study books. Masters students don’t receive support financially with living costs and it’s a very demanding training as it’s 5 days a week which makes it difficult for students to work.

History
I never planned to go university as I struggled in school and was exposed to Gang activity which took me down the wrong path. I was able to change my life around by the Grace of God which took me on the road to mentoring young people and giving back to the community. I have worked in several places as a mentor, support worker, youth worker, behaviour mentor and I was able to create a project that used drama to engage and mentor young people.
Why Drama Therapy
On this course we study Analytical Psychology, Developmental Psychology and how the Arts can be used to engage, express and help to heal people with Complex needs. Therapy is predominantly a white practice and as I’m a black male my aim is to tear down the stigma in the black culture towards therapy and I would like to gain more knowledge and understanding to use Drama Therapy in Prisons, Forensic Services, the community, bereavement, mental health and the church. You will not be only investing in me but you will be investing in the future of encouraging more black people to become Therapists and undergo Therapy.
How the Funds will be used
The funds will be used to support with living costs for the duration of 18 months starting when the course starts in October. Also as a Trainee Therapist we have to undergo Therapy which I will have to pay for on a monthly basis.
