Hello my name is Helen and with my sister Jenny, we're running the Herne Bay & Whitstable Half Marathon on 19th July to raise money for a phenomenal person, Jon Over.

I'd like to say a bit about Jon first. I met Jon, his wife Marie, and their two daughters through my husband, Simon, when Jon and Simon were both in the Navy together. They are an amazing family. When Simon was diagnosed with Leukaemia, we were fortunate to be surrounded by supportive friends and family and Jon was one of them. If it was a quiet catch up, going out for a meal or fundraising Jon was there. After Simon died, Jon arranged a football tournament in his memory to fundraise for people fighting Leukaemia, Jon always thinks of others. Jon demonstrated true compassion and kindness to Simon and all of his family. As a family we are grateful to know him.

Devastatingly, Jon has recently been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). I have no adequate words for this, life is unfair.

I know Jon will be thinking about Marie and his two beautiful daughters as they navigate their way through this and looking to the future.
