Flo is a 6 year old girl. She loves the planet and is passionate about doing her thing for climate change! Her hero is Greta Thunberg! She is a happy girl, with bundles of energy, who loves to spend time at the family allotment and she likes to have fun with her Rainbows Unit!

During the summer holidays of 2021, before she could return to start Year 2 (not forgetting that, due to covid, she has not completed a full school year yet!) Flo was diagnosed with High Risk (Stage 4) Neuroblastoma. This was after many trips to medical professionals who failed to diagnose her. Flo, her amazing parents (Hannah and Edd) and her little sister, Phoebe now have a really long road of treatment ahead of them. When Flo was diagnosed, the cancer was found in about 100 areas of her body.

A tumour began in Flo’s adrenal gland and has spread to her lymph nodes and bone marrow. Since her diagnosis in September 2021, she has undergone major surgery to have the tumour removed, followed by 11 x rounds of chemotherapy (this equates to 9 x different sorts, 59 x individual doses and being hooked up to the machine for a total of 29 days!) Once the cancer had reduced enough for further treatment, Flo underwent a full stem cell harvest and transplant, which had to be done in complete isolation in hospital over a number of weeks, with only one parent present. Flo has undergone numerous MRI scans, MIBG scans (injected with radiation), bone marrow biopsies, x-rays, ultrasounds, heart scans. She has been on daily medications, injections and, for the majority of the time she has been under treatment, she has had a feeding / medication tube fitted. The next step for Flo is that, in May, she will be having 10 sessions of radiotherapy and she will be put under general anaesthetic every day.

Fundraising was initially set up to help the family out with ever-growing costs that come with taking Flo back and forth to hospital, however, her Mum and Dad have become aware of life-saving treatment that she may be eligible for. The treatment is only available abroad and so our fundraising goal has changed.

High Risk Neuroblastoma has an extremely high rate of relapse and, if relapse occurs, it is incredibly difficult to treat. Treatment, that is currently available in America, is in trial stage and comes in the form of a vaccine, which hopes to reduce the chances of relapse. The cost of travelling back and forth, as well as numerous doses of the vaccine and medical care that Flo will require out there, comes with a price tag of £250,000. We really, really need all the help we can get to raise these funds to give Flo the best chance of getting the vaccine and being able to live her life. Any parent would want to do the same for their child.

If Flo is unable to have the vaccine for any reason or, if an alternative treatment becomes available in the meantime, all the money that has been raised will be donated to all the various, wonderful charities who are currently supporting Flo and her family throughout this really difficult time.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far and supports us in the future.
