Fundraising for Daniel Ryland
Donation protected
On the 14th of December 2018, Daniel Ryland (aged 27) was diagnosed with Stage 2B Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that targets the lymphatic system. Approximately 500 Australian’s are diagnosed each year with the disease.
Due to some ongoing complications from the masses located in his neck and chest in the lead up to his diagnosis, Dan was forced to cease working immediately in order to focus on his health whilst awaiting a commencement date for treatment.
On the 19th of December Dan commenced his first round of Chemotherapy which involves 4 different types of Chemo (known as the ABVD protocol) run intravenously over 3.5-4hrs.
These sessions occur fortnightly and cause a great deal of crippling side effects (including severe nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite, loss of taste, numbness & tingling in his fingers & toes, and not to mention hair loss). Whilst the Chemo attacks the cancer cells, it is also killing off Dan’s white blood cells, leaving him highly susceptible to infection & other complications. Following the completion of his Chemotherapy treatment, Dan will also have to undergo Radiation Therapy.
Understandably this has put a great deal of pressure on Dan & his family both mentally & physically, but also financially.
Please help us to take away some of that pressure, and allow them to focus on Dan’s health.
*** 7 of Dan's colleagues at QAS have committed to shave their heads to fundraise directly for Dan at a public event on the Australia Day long weekend. We will also be holding raffles at a local hotel over the coming weeks. Check back in a few days for further information regarding these events.
