Help Queen Kong, Toronto's powerhouse klezmer band, bring our unique new Jewish music into the world.

Queen Kong, the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award winner for Instrumental Group of the Year, is putting out a new recording highlighting a very special, oft-unheard of Chassidic Jewish wedding tradition, known as the Mitsve Tants.

We plan to record our new songs in November 2025, and have it all out into the world by May 2026, ready for our first tour dates in June.

Our music has made an impact on the Jewish music scene in Canada, crossing the country over three tours and being welcomed not only into Jewish communities, but jazz, folk and world music venues as well.

QK has made their first foray into Ireland as showcase performers at the "Your Roots are Showing" conference in Killarney followed by a much-lauded performance at the Jewish History Museum in Dublin.

We want to keep moving! We have a Canadian Maritime tour n June 2026 and We have our sights set on Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and we need our new material out there to entice new promoters.

We are asking for $5000 to help with the costs of making a record. This amount will go directly to pay the studio, producer and 7 musicians.

About the new recording:

The Mitsve Tants, or Kosher Tants, is a ritual dance imbued with mystical significance. Queen Kong’s upcoming recording, Mitsve Tants (May 2025), delves into the rich and evocative musical tradition of the Mitzve Tants—a Hasidic wedding ritual in which the family and friends of the bride sing and dance to regionally inspired melodies, enveloping her in joy and celebration on her wedding day. In 2022 while in Manhattan working with Frank London on QK's debut recording "Fray", Lorie came across Binyoman Ginsburg's songbook collection of "Mitsve Tanz" from across Eastern Europe. Lorie has decided to bring these mystical and beautiful nigunim to light with new arrangement, Queen Kong style!

Rooted in this deep well of Hasidic musical heritage, Mitsve Tants reimagines these traditional sounds through Queen Kong’s signature fusion of intricate arrangements, lush harmonies, and boundary-pushing improvisation. Audiences can expect a dynamic performance that blends storytelling, historical depth, and virtuosic musicianship, breathing new life into these age-old melodies while maintaining their spiritual essence.

Through carefully curated compositions, Queen Kong creates a sonic landscape that feels both familiar and refreshingly new. The performance will weave together melodies that shift effortlessly between the sacred and the profane, transporting listeners through an emotional and rhythmic journey.
