Hello everyone we are setting up this fund to help our sister, Amie. Following a heartfelt vacation in May 2023 with her son, where they sought to honor the 4- year anniversary of his father's passing, Amie's health took a sudden downturn. What began as a seemingly innocuous sickness soon led to a diagnosis of a parasite, which unfortunately progressed into something far more serious. Amie has been grappling with a relentless chronic medical condition that has completely turned her life upside down, going from working tirelessly, pouring in over 80 hours a week, to facing the daily challenges brought on by gastroparesis, a condition where her stomach is paralyzed.

As her symptoms progressed, Amie's ability to work diminished, and she was eventually diagnosed with gastroparesis. This condition has left her unable to digest food properly, causing constant pain and discomfort. Despite undergoing treatment, the side effects of the medication have taken a toll on her body, leaving her weak, fatigued, and in chronic pain. She has lost nearly 60 pounds, struggles with mobility, and copes with the added burden of frequent medical appointments and emergency room visits. To make matters worse, Amie was recently impacted by layoffs at a job she loves (and that loved her), leaving her without a steady income or health insurance. Despite her desperate need for assistance, Amie has been unable to secure disability benefits due to strict eligibility requirements (E.g., not working for a full year).

To complicate matters further, the medications intended to manage her condition have led to additional health complications, including a battle with CDiff infection. The financial strain of medical bills, copays, and medication costs has been overwhelming, especially with Amie being the sole provider for her 13-year-old son since the passing of his father five years ago this coming April.

Amie is diligently working with a team of specialists, including GI doctors, motility specialists, dieticians, and psychiatrists, to navigate her complex medical journey. However, the challenges of the healthcare system and the time-consuming nature of securing appointments have only added to her ordeal.

Despite the love and support from family and friends, Amie's journey to recovery remains daunting. We are reaching out to our community in the hope of alleviating some of the financial burdens she faces. Our goal is to raise funds to cover medical expenses and provide support for housing and living expenses, allowing Amie to focus on her health and well-being.
