‘Without school education most children from poor homes have very little hope for the future’
Hi, I'm Denise, and I'm absolutely thrilled to be organising this fundraiser with the help of some incredibly talented creatives.
We're all coming together to raise vital funds for Maths Ed Ghana, a charity founded by my amazing parents.
Their mission? To make sure children in underprivileged and deprived villages in Ghana and beyond receive the good quality education they truly deserve.
You see, this isn't just a cause to me... it's deeply personal.
Maths Ed Ghana started by focusing on Sokabisi, a village in Ghana that's literally where I grew up.
I mean, I was raised amongst kids in mud houses, children who, through no fault of their own, never had the opportunities I've been so incredibly privileged to experience since moving to the UK.
My heart aches thinking about it... because education is a right, not a privilege.
Just a couple of months ago, my Dad was telling me about the school they'd built in Sokabisi.
They'd successfully launched it with one classroom ready to go. But then, on the very first day, something beautiful and heartbreaking happened: so many more children turned up than they ever expected!
Which, you know, is amazing... but it also means the school is now seriously underfunded and simply doesn't have the resources to manage all these eager young minds.
These children want to learn. They showed up. And we need to meet their courage with action.
That's where our virtual 'Creativity for Access to Education' live showcase comes in!
On 9th August 2025, a lineup of incredible poets, singers, rappers, painters, and storytellers will be sharing their art online, all to raise funds right here.
Every single donation will go directly towards supporting Maths Ed Ghana's crucial work.
Specifically, we're aiming to:
- Build Extra Classrooms: To accommodate the incredibly high demand for quality education and give every child a space to learn.
- ⚡ Connect Electricity: To power classrooms sustainably (£500+ goal!), bringing light and energy for modern learning.
- Provide Educational Materials: Books, solar radios, laptops or chromebooks, and essential school supplies (50+ items goal!) to equip young minds
- Empower the Community: Directly supporting over 60 students in Sokabisi and surrounding communities, and providing resources for their dedicated teachers.
