Sana Premarajah - Cancer (Hodgkin’s lymphoma)

Donation protected
My name is Rathai and I am starting this fundraiser to help my brother-in-law’s (Sana Premarajah) family stay afloat after losing his year-and-a-half long battle with cancer. He had been battling Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for a year and a half but at the young age of 33-years-old, he passed away, leaving his mother and siblings behind. They tragically lost their father six years ago, and now their dear brother. This sudden and unpredictable death has been emotionally hard on the family, causing a lot of pain but also anxiety about finances and the future.

Sana was a very special person in my life. He had gone through chemo and radiotherapy like a champion, with infectious unwavering faith, facing this journey in his calm and kind demenour. We waited for a scan declaring his battle had been won, however, things took a turn for the worse. Sana’s right lung had become full with infection, abscess, and lymphoma, blocking the right bronchus. The entire body became reliant on the left lung for oxygen. As he was already neutropenic (very weak immune system), the doctors tried to reduce infection through a high dosage of antibiotics. Unfortunately, it did not help and towards the end they chose emergency chemo as a last resort to ease the lymphoma. The doctors said if the oxygen saturation continued to drop, he would need to be put to sleep and go on ventilation, in which case his survival would become very slim.

On the night of March 12th, Sana started experiencing shortness of breath and extreme difficulty breathing and asked the doctors to put him on a ventilator during the early hours of March 13th. He continued to decline whilst on the ventilator, as his blood pressure was extremely low, and his organs were not receiving enough oxygen.

Sana will be remembered for his big heart, humour, and beautiful smile. He is a true inspiration, who showed us that battles can be faced with a smile and with humbling strength. His friends and coworkers admired his work ethic. He was not able to work since the diagnosis. At the time, his lovely wife worked a full-time job as a manager whilst being his primary caregiver. Compassionate and caring, Sana and Keetha were inseparable and meant to be together. At the age of 31, she lost her husband, her pillar, the love of her life and best friend.

Any amount you donate will help the family get back on their feet. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this and sharing this heavy moment with us. We truly appreciate all of you and any support you can offer at this time.
