Fundraiser in Support of Joe and Joelle Anglehart

This fundraiser is in support of our friend, Joelle Anglehart and her husband, Joe.

Eleven years ago, at the age of 34, Joe was diagnosed with brain cancer. He had a large mass on his right frontal lobe. After undergoing a craniotomy and treatments, Joe did remarkably well for many years. He was asymptomatic until November 2022 when during a regularly scheduled MRI, a new tumour was confirmed. A biopsy revealed a Grade 4 malignant tumour that is associated with rapid progression. Joe is only 45 years old.

The tumour is called Butterfly Glioblastoma. In only 3% of cases, it resembles the wings of a butterfly. This devastating diagnosis affects both frontal lobes. The frontal lobe has many functions and handles reasoning, judgment, decision making and personality just to name a few. Due to its location, this rare tumour is inoperable. This cancer carries an extremely poor prognosis, even with aggressive therapy such as radiation and chemotherapy.

After suffering a massive seizure at the beginning of January, Joe was airlifted to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital where he spent the next 3 months. Despite significant challenges Joe did radiation and chemotherapy once again.

Since Christmas, Joe has been in and out of hospitals. He suffers from severe headaches, has seizures and has difficulty walking. He has also been diagnosed with blastomycosis and is recovering from double pneumonia.

Joe is now back home and is back on chemotherapy. This is palliative chemo to keep him comfortable. Sadly, there is no cure for his disease.

Since his original diagnosis at the age of 34, Joe was never able to return to work as a conductor/engineer with CP Rail. Joe is extremely positive and continues to fight every day. This fund will allow his wife Joelle to continue to be able to stay home and care for him.
