Fundraiser in Memory of Jim "Sarge" Sweazy
As most of you already know, Jim "Sarge" Sweazy passed away Sunday morning (8-22-21). Many people have contacted me over the last few days asking how to help. This was the best option to consolidate everyone's contributions.
Sarge was the most hardworking person I've ever met. I always joked that he'd rush home from work just so he could get back to work on his home projects. Unfortunately, separate battles with prostate cancer and stage 4 colorectal cancer led to a prolonged, multi-year absence from working (which he hated more than anything). As a result, he did not have life insurance, and their savings were greatly depleted. He was also unable to complete several house renovation projects that he was in the middle of, due to the movement and weight restrictions given to him following several surgeries over the last few years.
He would have never asked for help, or accepted help, while he was alive -- he made that very clear. However, through our endless conversations about cancer over the last few years it was clear that he was most concerned about the burden left on Deb (and making sure the oil gets changed regularly in his John Deere, lol). Steve Bartow, Patty, Derek, Scot, Tracy, Sirena and all of her close family members have already been a huge help. Anything we can gather from their vast faction of friends and extended family will make things just a little bit easier. As we all know, The Sweazys leave their mark wherever they go.
If you would like to help in other ways, please contact me, Derek Sweazy, Scot Sweazy, Drew Evans, or Nate Goldenberg.
Thank you all in advance and RIP Sargie! Go Bears!
