In Memory of Jaya – Help Us Install a Defibrillator at Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club

As we approach a year since we sadly lost our dear friend and fellow club member, Jaya, we want to do something lasting and meaningful in his memory – something that could one day save a life.

Jaya was a warm, kind-hearted, and generous man who always had a smile and time for everyone, whether you knew him for years or had just met him. He loved cricket, he loved people, and he loved being part of our Sawbridgeworth community. His sudden passing left a huge gap, and we want to honour him by giving something back that reflects the kind of person he was – caring, thoughtful, and always looking out for others.

We are raising £3,000 to install a public access defibrillator at Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club. With anywhere between 20 to 200 people on-site during busy Friday nights or weekends — including those from the bowls club and tennis club nearby — having this vital, life-saving equipment available could make all the difference in a critical emergency.

We have already arranged a contact through St John Ambulance, who will provide the defibrillator and deliver annual training for members of the club. Some of us, including myself, are already CPR-trained, but access to a defib can massively improve the chances of survival in cardiac incidents.

This is not just for us — it’s for our players, parents, supporters, and the wider community. All members, friends, and families are welcome to contribute whatever they can. Every pound gets us one step closer to installing a defibrillator that could save a life.
