Supporting John Sabo Through Cancer

On June 9th, 2023, my Uncle John suffered a stroke. The stroke impacted his speech and his right hand. He is working on speech, occupational, and physical therapy to help him recover. While in the hospital, lesions were found on his liver which, after a liver biopsy, led to a diagnosis of gall bladder and liver cancer. He is scheduled for surgery the week of July 17th, 2023. Subsequent treatments to fight this have not yet been determined. This recovery will also delay his efforts to recover from the stroke. 

He owns and runs a restaurant called Prairie Harvest, located in the small town of Crystal City, Manitoba. This restaurant also contains his residence. He will be unable to work for a minimum of six months. The restaurant will need to be closed for that period of time, until he hopefully recovers. Prairie Harvest is his sole source of income, and its closure will cause extra challenges on top of what he is already facing. These unexpected events come in addition to trying to recover from financial losses due to the recent pandemic.

The situation is not great, and as a small buisness owner, there are limited options. My family, especially my cousins, have been working very hard to keep the buisness running in the meantime, but it is incredibly hard with the owner and head chef out of commission. We are working to sustain what he has built, while also preparing for alternative plans as his story progresses. He has five sons, one who will be attending kindergarten in Crystal City this fall. He is a great guy, with a big heart who has touched many lives over his 51 years. All of this to say, he could really use some help right now.
