In aid of Endometriosis Awareness Month, I have decided to put on a charity gig to raise money for Endometriosis UK! As someone who personally suffers with endometriosis, I understand how debilitating this condition can be, and also how hard it can be for women to be seen in the healthcare system. From horrific flareups leaving me unable to walk, compromising relationships and affecting my quality of life, endometriosis has taken so much from me. Endometriosis UK is a London based charity that pushes for women like me to be seen and heard, they fight for the diagnosis time to be shortened, and for effective treatments and cures to be developed. Currently, it takes an average of 8-10 years to get a diagnosis of endometriosis through the NHS, as the symptoms are often dismissed as "just a bad period." There's not enough research into endometriosis, to the point that some doctors are unaware of the condition, even though 1 in 10 women are affected by this disease. There is currently no definite cause or cure for endometriosis. It's a life sentence of debilitating pain that can currently only be controlled by painkillers, heat devices, addictive opioids, hormone control, surgery, and in some cases, the removal of vital organs. This needs to change. Women cannot suffer in silence, and the research into women's healthcare needs to be taken seriously. Tickets will be on sale for £5 each and all proceeds will go towards Endometriosis UK in order to support them with their incredible advocation for women who suffer with this condition. There will also be an opportunity to donate at the gig as well! Any donation can make a massive difference. Let's help women be seen. Let's find a cure for endometriosis together.
