(GOAL REACHED!) Fundraiser for Whiskey's Vet Expenses

UPDATE: Thank you all SO MUCH! The goal has been reached and I now have enough to ensure that all of Whiskey’s medical expenses are paid! Your kindness and generosity is deeply appreciated. I am so grateful to everyone who donated, and so happy to see that Whiskey is so beloved by so many people. Hello, I am Whiskey's owner, Sydney. I have made this fundraiser because Whiskey is currently in the veterinary hospital. Thankfully, he will be okay and will be back to his usual friendly self very soon.

As many know, Whiskey is a much-loved local cat who lives near the University of Sydney and has become a familiar face to many students walking down Abercrombie Street on their way to campus. Over the years, he’s brought so much joy to those who pass by, whether he’s lounging in the sun, receiving pats, or curiously watching the world go by. Countless staff and students have come to know and admire him, and I have always been so proud to hear from so many people that Whiskey puts a smile on their faces whenever they see him.

Recently, Whiskey developed a urethral obstruction. This is fairly common in male cats, but if it is not treated properly, it can be a serious and potentially life-threatening condition. Fortunately, I noticed this issue quickly and was able to get him to the veterinary hospital in time. He is now on the mend and expected to make a full recovery.

However, the emergency care came with significant costs of $4,000 in veterinary hospital fees. I will also be incurring ongoing expenses as Whiskey transitions to a special urinary care diet to help prevent future issues. I am a full-time Master’s student, and so covering these unexpected costs on my own is a real challenge.
