Wayne Page is a local Durham Fireman who in December was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer. So far he has had to endure six weeks of Chemotherapy and Radiation to shrink the tumor. Recently he underwent six hours of surgery to remove part of his stomach and the majority of his esophagus. Now he has begun the very long and difficult recovery. His recovery has been sidetracked with multiple complications which has extended his expected hospital stay. So far he has been hospitalized for 15 days with the possibility of several more weeks. Once he is able to go home it will be several months before he can return to his duties of Fireman. He will also require follow up scans and possible treatment.
Anyone that knows Wayne knows the kind of person that he is! He won't tell a friend no and will give you the shirt off his back!! This has been a real tough time for him and his wife Mendy who has been at his side threw out. With the hospital stay being longer than expected and no clear deadline to go home , things are really in limbo for this family! New medical year deductibles are coming up very soon and the combination of that and loss of pay is really gonna take its toll!! Let's all pull together and help this great family get thru this without a big financial burden on top of everything else.
