Fundraiser for Tokyo 2020 Olympics
Donation protected
To all family, friends, and supporters,
Recently I was chosen to represent the great country of Israel in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo this July. As most of you know I played for Team Israel in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. To say that we were underdogs is an understatement as one article put it we were “the Jamaican bobsled team” in reference to the movie ‘Cool Runnings’. We ended up one win shy of advancing to the final round, but needless to say we shocked many in the baseball world. Flash forward to 2019 and the Olympic Qualifier in Europe; as you might suspect the “Jew Crew” won first place and a bid to the 2020 Olympics. Baseball has not been in the Olympics since 1988. After returning from a trip from Israel recently and working with the youth baseball players as well as seeing the country I was blown away. The passion and discipline the youth players possessed was amazing and fun to witness and a great reminder for why I play the game. To represent those players aspiring one day to play in the Olympics will be a great honor.
The reason for starting this GoFundMe is not for ME, it is for TEAM ISRAEL. Other sports and other countries participating in the Olympics do not necessarily have to worry about funds and since we just recently won the qualifier and earning a bid to compete we are short on time and need to raise enough money for 25 players plus additional staff and coaches. The money raised will go towards travel, food, lodging, mini camp to prepare, as well as a stipend for players and coaches in the training months leading to the games.
The goal right now is set very low but we are looking for any amount of donations to get the ball rolling. We would love your support with helping us get to the Olympic Games and competing on the biggest stage in all of competition.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my fundraiser and looking forward to your donation for us.
See you in Tokyo,
Jared Lakind
