On the night of Sunday, October 20th, 2019, the Kennedy family of six, (Mom, Dad and our four children), were enjoying a relaxing, but rainy Sunday evening. We were getting ready for a normal week of work and school. When, in 20 minutes a fire broke out that destroyed our home, and our lives.
Thank God, the thick, black smoke that spread throughout the house alerted us that something was wrong. Almost immediately, we all connected, checked on each other, and began exiting the house. Once outside, looking back at the front of our home, it was frightening and surreal to see flames shooting out of the windows of our home. But, the fact that we all made it out of the house alive is what keeps us grounded everyday since.
The American Red Cross was on the scene shortly after we got out. Their assistance was nothing short of a miracle. The first night responders provided clothing, hygiene supplies, temporary housing and a debit card for emergency expenses. Since then, our hotel stay has been extended - on a day-to-day basis - by churches, clergymen, neighbors, friends and family.
In the wake of this surreal tragedy, we are facing a myriad of challenges that cloud our future. Our children, all honor roll students, are dealing with feelings of sadness and depression, that will have to be borne as they return to school. To further complicate the picture, the forced-placed insurance in effect at the time of the fire, does not cover Loss-of-Use (hotel expenses), nor Contents (personal belongings).
We are desperately asking for your assistance to begin to return our lives to normalcy. We need help to cover the cost of housing, personal belongings, food, clothing, transportation, and other expenses. The outpouring of sympathy and support that we have received thus far has been a heartwarming surprising. Your support will mean so much to us.
