Fundraiser For the Haselwood Family
Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,
As many of you know, Scott, a man who is loved by so many and returns that love threefold, was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in the form of a glioblastoma. Thankfully, Scott underwent surgery at the top hospital in the nation for the type of cancer he has, M.D. Anderson in Houston, with Shelly at his side, but the road has not been an easy one. He suffered a stroke during the day long surgery and due to the location of the tumor that was removed, near his brain stem, combined with the stroke, he may have impaired speech and motor skills for an extended time, possibly for life; It is too soon to tell but there is always room for optimism. We know Scott, he is a fighter and has everything to live and thrive for with his amazing wife, Shelly, and their playfully energetic son, Jakey. If he could speak at this time, he would emphatically tell you the same.
Scott is undergoing rehabilitation now in Houston as he needs to stay near his expert team of doctors, and the expenses as you can imagine are racking up quickly. He is preparing for chemo treatments in addition to radiation and has been moved to an assisted living facility while he receives further neuro and other forms of rehab. Along with his physical care, he is now taking a slew of new and very expensive medications to help keep him from having seizures among other things. Scott will also need modifications done to their home when he returns, so this fund is being set up with the intent to help them offset the multitude of unexpected and costly expenses, not covered by insurance, which are popping up now but also ones we foresee arising for them as a family.
As dear friends and family of Scott and Shelly, we ask that you consider donating what you can to help them on this difficult journey. With both of them not able to work at this time and having to be away from home, we are grateful for every dollar sent their way to help lessen the skyrocketing financial load that they are now facing.
We will update Scott’s journey as we learn more, but in the meantime, thank you. Thank you for being there for Shelly and Jakey as they navigate this scary time. Thank you for being there for Scott in spirit and in person to remind him of how loved he is. Thank you for being there for their extended family as they left their everyday lives to circle around them tightly with their love and support. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Amy Ochs, Karina Santillo Elizarraz and Tanya Lopez
