Ricardo is 16 years old. While taking a shower, he slipped and fell on the concrete so hard that he hurt his back. At first, he thought little of it and tried to recover at home. This happened about a month ago. In Mexico, getting medical intervention can get very expensive and it seemed easier to Ricardo to just try to get better with rest. Recently, his pain became more excruciating. His family thought that with more rest, he would get better, but when Ricardo suddenly was unable to move, his family was terrified. Ricardo's father took him to the hospital where the doctor diagnosed him with spinal injuries including subligamentous disc extrusion L4-L5, displacement of the nerve roots of the medullary sac, disc protrusion L5-S1, discopathy L4-L5 and L5-S1 Grade IV Pfirrman classification ( a total of 5 grades, thus, a very bad injury), and mild facet synovitis.

With all of that, the doctors have recommended spinal surgery. Unfortunately, Ricardo and his family live in Mexico and the cost to do the surgery is $150,000 pesos (about $7,500 dollars). His small community is working towards raising money for this surgery and unlike in the United States, this cannot be done until it is paid off.

We are asking for any support, prayers, and donations to help Ricardo be able to walk again. At 16, he has a whole lifetime ahead of him. All of the money that is collected will be used for his surgery and the long recovery that is to come. Thank you all.

Ricardo tiene 16 años. Mientras se bañaba, se resbaló y cayó sobre el concreto con tanta fuerza que se lastimó la espalda. Al principio, le dio poca importancia y trató de recuperarse en casa. Esto sucedió hace aproximadamente un mes. En México, obtener una intervención médica puede ser muy costoso y a Ricardo le pareció más fácil tratar de mejorar con descanso. Recientemente, su dolor se volvió más insoportable. Su familia pensó que con más descanso, mejoraría, pero cuando Ricardo de repente no pudo moverse, su familia estaba aterrorizada. El padre de Ricardo lo llevó al hospital donde el médico le diagnosticó lesiones en la columna incluyendo extrusión discal subligamentosa L4-L5, desplazamiento de las raíces nerviosas del saco medular, protrusión discal L5-S1, discopatía L4-L5 y L5-S1 Grado IV Pfirrman clasificación (un total de 5 grados, por lo tanto, una lesión muy grave), y sinovitis facetaria leve.

Con todo eso, los médicos han recomendado una cirugía de columna. Desafortunadamente, Ricardo y su familia viven en México y el costo de la cirugía es de $150,000 pesos (alrededor de $7,500 dólares). Su pequeña comunidad está trabajando para recaudar dinero para esta cirugía y, a diferencia de los Estados Unidos, esto no se puede hacer hasta que se pague.
