My name is Kapanda Phiri, founder of Lusafarmz Zambia Limited. My story began in December of 2019, while working on my farm. I faced various challenges, which included workers being absent from work, especially when they had already received down payments for the work they were hired to do. This negatively impacted production on the farm and compromised the planting schedule.
The challenge of sourcing reliable farm workers is well known in the smallholder farming community. This challenge inspired me to research and reverse engineer the Wheel Hoes and other handheld tools designed to assist smallholder farmers and market gardeners.
In the last two years, through Lusafarmz, I have managed to manufacture an agricultural tool well, and it has been received well in the test communities. Imagine working an acre of land in one day! With the Wheel Hoes(Push Plow), you can do just that, unlike using hoes which take forever, is back-breaking, and compromises the crop in the field because the farmer cannot finish their fields uniformly.
Sustainable and energy-efficient smallholder farming is now possible with the tools I am designing, working competently while spending less on labor. I’m excited to go into the next phase, mass producing the tools to empower my fellow farmers so they won't be in a position to experience downtime on their farms as I did.
With your donation, I will be able to mass produce 500 units of the Push Plow and help smallholder farmers and market gardeners work to maximize productivity and minimize wasted effort or expense. Eventually, I hope to increase their household income and improve their livelihoods. Your support can change the dynamics of the Zambian smallholder farmers forever.
Thank you for your donation in advance!
