As hard as it is to share this news with everybody, I feel it is important so we can help my brother as much as possible during this difficult time. So here goes...
On February 23, 2020 my brother, Seth Howard, had an unimaginably terrible accident. He fell down a flight of stairs in his apartment. This fall resulted in Seth breaking the cervical vertebrae in his spine, which has left him paralyzed from the chest down. Thankfully, Seth has limited movement in his arms and some movement of his hands, although movement is painful and will significantly impact the way he is able to live his life. Sadly, Seth is unable to move his legs in any way. When this tragic event occurred, Seth was rushed to the ICU at Rhode Island hospital. He could not breathe on his own and was also very banged up with a broken nose. Seth is now able to breathe on his own but presents with difficulty at times.
This event has been extremely difficult on our entire family, but of course it has been the most difficult for Seth. Accepting that your life has completely changed in an instant and wishing you could turn back time... losing your ability to move and becoming completely dependent on others.... it’s a challenge physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. A challenge in every way. Another challenge is having to deal with this life change during the COVID-19 crisis where family members are unable to visit Seth to comfort and support him.
The reason for this GoFundMe is to raise money for Seth since he was living paycheck to paycheck (like many of us do) and does not have a savings to fall back on. Seth needs money to put minutes on his cellphone so he can talk with family and friends when he needs support. It will help buy him adaptive equipment which therapy will instruct him to use to regain independence in all aspects of his life. The funds will help Seth get on his feet again once he is discharged from the nursing home and begin to adjust to living life in a new (hopefully more independent) setting. It will also be able to help with medical bills if enough is raised. No amount is too small.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this page would be greatly appreciated and helpful. Prayers for Seth’s peace, comfort, and recovery are also appreciated.
If you would like to send Seth a card to lift his spirits, please contact me through social media or text message for his current address.
Thank you for taking the time to read Seth’s story. I love my brother so much and my heart breaks for him. I hope this page is able to help in some way when we all feel so helpless.
