My Name is Lorenzo Kalosi Tonumaipea.

Our family is humbly asking for prayers and support for my brother, Richard Tuli Tonumaipea, who is currently in the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition after suffering a severe stroke.

Earlier that day, Richard had been helping friends service their car. While there, he received another call from someone needing help with a mechanical issue. On the way to assist, he was seated in the back of the vehicle and had fallen asleep.

When they arrived at their destination, his friends tried to wake him but were unable to. Realizing something was seriously wrong, they immediately called an ambulance. While waiting for emergency services, they carefully moved Richard from the vehicle to help with his breathing.

At that moment, a nurse and her son who happened to be nearby noticed the situation and quickly stepped in to assist. When paramedics arrived, they assessed Richard and urgently transported him to Westmead Hospital’s Adult Emergency Department for immediate medical care.

Doctors later confirmed that Richard had suffered a severe stroke caused by extremely high blood pressure, which led to bleeding in his brain. Due to the severity of the bleeding and his current condition, doctors have advised that surgery is not an option at this time. He remains in the Intensive Care Unit while doctors closely monitor him and provide the critical care he needs.

Richard is not only my brother—he is also a loving husband and the devoted father of four young children. His wife and children are currently living in Samoa, while Richard has been living with me in Australia so he could work and provide for his family.

Richard works full-time, and anyone who knows him knows how hardworking and generous he is. Even after long days at work, he would often take on side jobs helping people repair their cars. No matter the time of day—or night—if someone needed help, Richard would do his best to be there. That is simply the kind of person he is: someone who always shows up for others when they need it most.

This sudden medical emergency has been devastating for our family. As we focus on supporting Richard during this critical time, we are also facing significant financial challenges.

We have created this fundraiser to help with:

Ongoing treatment and medications

Support for his wife and four young children in Samoa

Living expenses while Richard is unable to work
