My name is Samantha Lischka, and I'm the owner of Modern Burlap in Bellville, Texas, a global lifestyle brand founded in 2014. As a designer, I have experience sourcing materials and manufacturing across the globe. I feel passionate about acting quickly to help our local hospital providers get Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) during this time of crisis, and I need your help.

Here’s the problem: I’ve seen countless headlines about healthcare workers lacking Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) across the state for far too long, and I see the biggest resources being provided right now are by personal entities and citizens stepping up to provide in their communities. Hospitals across the US are waiting for federal and state government to provide essential PPE, and the government’s supply is not meeting hospital demand with the current chain of action in place. As factories across the globe ramp up manufacturing of PPE, more and more private entities and individuals are purchasing PPE in bulk to donate to hospitals directly and quickly. As these trends gain traction, pricing around the world for PPE continues to rise. US pricing for N95 masks and similiar has been inflated for some time. Now pricing in China is rising as well. I do not want to price ourselves out of being able to assist our local healthcare workers.

Here’s the solution: Earlier this week I reached out to Bellville Medical Center to see what personal protective equipment they hope to get to ensure they are fully prepared for the COVID-19 pandemic and not waiting on the government to provide it. Upon receipt of numbers this week, I began filtering and narrowing down factories with price, quality, and turnaround time in mind. I am ready to move froward with purchase orders to get them to BMC as soon as possible. However, the ideal quantities they are seeking are greater than what I intended to budget on my own. I am reaching out to our community in hopes that others will feel compelled to help make sure our frontline responders are covered.

I’m anticipating needing to raise $5,000+ to fund below PPE items and quantities with express delivery to have them in hand this month. Here are the numbers:

Funds raised on this campaign will be managed by Samantha Lischka / Modern Burlap to purchase and import all necessary personal protection equipment for Bellville Medical Center. To be as transparent as possible, I will be updating ordering information, money spent toward purchasing, and ETA for each PPE item as each order is completed.

Should the hospital’s needs evolve, this response will evolve as well. If fundraising efforts generate more than needed for purchase and import of above PPE items, I will discuss with Bellville Medical Center CEO and CFO how we can best help next and update you here. Should no further PPE items be needed and additional budget still remain, I will issue a check to Bellville Medical Center in the amount of the remaining funds.
