Why I am raising money:
Hi everyone, my name is Patience Phiri, and I am a survivor of Labour Trafficking and Migrant Worker Exploitation. I have been through unimaginable experiences, but I am determined to use my story to make a difference. I'm raising funds to enable me to obtain an MA in Human Trafficking, Migration and Organized Crime at St Mary's University in London, so I can help others who have gone through similar ordeals.
My story:
I am a survivor of Labor Trafficking and Migrant Worker Exploitation turned Anti-Human Trafficking Activist. My journey has equipped me with a unique understanding of the complexities and challenges faced by survivors having experienced firsthand exploitation, abuse and manipulation that victims endure. However, I have also witnessed the transformative power of support, advocacy and empowerment. As I navigated my recovery, I realized that I wanted to use my experiences to help others.
In 2018 I began volunteering with an anti-trafficking organization sharing my story, and advocating for policies that protect survivors. My passion grew and I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to fighting human trafficking and exploitation. In 2021 I founded Hope Risen Foundation-Malawi, an organization that is dedicated in the fight against human trafficking and exploitation. Through this organisation I raise awareness in Malawi and beyond about human trafficking and I support survivors in Malawi. I am committed to using my voice and Hope Risen Foundation to amplify the stories of survivors and drive change that prevents others from suffering the injustices of human trafficking.
By studying the MA in Human Trafficking, Migration, and Organized Crime, I will be the very first person to hold that qualification in Malawi which will equip me with advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise to make a meaningful impact in the lives of survivors and contribute to the prevention of human trafficking in Malawi. This course will also enable me to conduct research to identify trafficking hotspots, trends, and patterns in Malawi. Raise awareness through public speaking, writing, and media engagement to prevent trafficking and protect vulnerable populations and to contribute to policy development and reform, ensuring that laws and regulations address the needs of survivors and prevent trafficking. Completion of this MA will also empower me to meaningfully engage with government institutions, such as the Ministry of Homeland Security or the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare and collaborate with international organizations, like the International Justice Mission (IJM), IOM or UNODC.
How you can help:
Donate: Every contribution, big or small, brings me closer to achieving my goal.
I have been offered a place on the course for September 2025. The tuition for the course is £18,000. I have been working tirelessly to raise money towards the tuition fee and will continue to do so. However, I need your support to reach the full amount! Therefore, my aim is to raise £12,000 to pay my tuition fee for the MA in Human Trafficking, Migration and Organized Crime at St Mary's University in London. Your contribution will go directly to the university to pay for my tuition.
Share: Spread the word about my campaign and help me reach a wider audience.
Support: Offer words of encouragement and follow my journey.
Goal: £12,000
Deadline: 30th June 2025
Thank you for believing in me and my mission. Together, we can create a safer world for everyone.
