Fundraiser for parents affected by St. Louis tornado.
Donation protected
My name is Michael R. Harris Jr. I am the son of Michael Sr. and April Harris. On the afternoon of May 16th, St. Louis City was impacted by an EF3 tornado, the likes of which hasn't been seen within the city limits since 1959. One of the neighborhoods affected was The Ville, where I was raised and my parents still resided. The storm destroyed complete blocks of brick-style homes, and, unfortunately, my parents' home was one of them, along with many of our friends and neighbors.
Luckily for my parents (because the tornado sirens never alerted the residents of the area of tornadic activity), my father just so happened to be on the porch, as many Midwesterners do during a storm, when he realized the funnel actually formed and moved quickly from the southwest. He, in all of his 66-year-old glory, quickly ran into the house upstairs to inform my mother, who was in the bedroom on the second story. Luckily, as she left the room, the wall collapsed, and several windows were blown out.
My parents were fortunate to have not incurred any injury, but the home, which my grandfather bought after serving in WWII and has seen five generations pass through, suffered significant damage. The eastern and western-facing walls have collapsed, and the back wall and roof have sustained significant structural damage.
They have lost several family heirlooms, furniture, most of their clothing items, and items they used to entertain their grandchildren while caretaking.
If you would like to help assist my parents in picking up the pieces with a monetary donation, in order to help them get back on their feet, my family would be eternally grateful. Thank you.
