My family and I need your help for our dog, Miley. On Tuesday evening, she went with my husband for a drive to the gas station. Something she loves to do and something the two of them do on a daily basis and have done so for years. Everytime she sees him get ready to leave, she hopes right in. For some reason, when my husband went to go turn back onto our street, she jumped out of the window. She's never done this before. This caused her back left femur to shatter. We drove her straight to the animal hospital where we were given three options: one - allow the surgeon to try to place her femur back and put a cast on her leg but this option is very unlikely to work due the how bad the femur shattered. Option two - amputate her leg and she will have to learn to become a three legged dog or option three - Euthanize.
Well it is going to be our committment to make her the happiest three legged dog there has ever been! It's not going to be easy on any of us but it's her leg, not her brain or her heart or something like that. She can live without it and we can live with taking care of her. She has been my baby since before I had babies. She's my oldest baby. Once upon a time, I paid a babysitter to watch her every single day as I worked so I trained her correctly and she always had someone there. She has literally been the best $8 I have ever spent in my life. It is our fault this happened to her and it's our job to make sure she lives as happy and comfortable as possible until she is old and ready to pass on her own. When I got her at 4 weeks old with her little shriveled up rat foot with no hair because ring worm ate it all up, I knew I was in it for the long haul for her. She's special. She deserves it. She's my girl and I'm not ready to let her go and I don't think she would want me too either. We can do this.
As Miley is currently still up in the emergency animal hospital, I have found a low cost hospital that will amputate her leg for a much lower cost. Although it is a much lower cost, it still is going to be between $2000 and $3000 all said and done. We have had alot of people reach out to support, but we will not be able to do it on our own.
Please help my family be able to get this surgery for our girl. Please help her. She is one of the best parts for our family.
UPDATE: So Miley had her surgery this afternoon. The doctor said she did really well other than her heart rate and blood pressure dropped at one point during the surgery but they were able to get that back to. They took off all the way up to half her thigh. They are going to continue to monitor her overnight and will call me with another update in the morning but believe she is going to make a full recovery and will quickly adapt to only having three legs. I want to thank everyone who donated so far. You have no idea how much this means to my family and I. If you can still continue sharing, that would be do incredibly helpful. Again, I can't thank you all enough who have already donated and shared this. You all are amazing.
