To most, he is “Captain Jim” of New Ipswich Fire, sometimes Santa Clause of Greenville Fire who visits the fire house and every house in town each year, and “Coach Jim” to a whole generation of young people. A 39 year veteran firefighter who has given his whole life to serving his community. Esophageal cancer has taken its toll and is being labeled as likely from his years of firefighting. This terrible disease is going to require a year of intense treatment in Boston, months of disability and loss of income, and significant costs associated with travel, relocation, and his care. As the primary breadwinner of the home, this disruption will be difficult for the family in all aspects. Please help get him through this illness and show him that his community is fighting with him!

Jim is currently a member of the New Ipswich Fire Department and has been serving on his local departments for 39 years. We are asking for assistance as he will be spending a lot of time in Boston at Mass General Hospital. Donations will be utilized to help the family with medical expenses and other financial burdens that their family will face during the upcoming months.
Any help would be greatly appreciated to help this family during this difficult time.

From his wife:
"It is with a heavy heart that we want to tell our community our difficult news. My husband Jim has been diagnosed with late stage 3/early stage 4 Adenocarcinoma of the esophagus which is starting to travel. This news is devastating to our family and of course Jim. We have sought care in Boston at Mass General at their Thoracic Oncology Center which is world class. The road ahead is going to be long and very difficult. Please pray for our family, our children, and the two of us as we grapple with the enormity of this. We begin chemotherapy and immunotherapy Tuesday for 4 months, followed by daily radiation for 6 weeks and then a difficult surgery to remove the primary tumor and rebuild his thoracic cavity. We will have to move to Boston for 2 months minimum and this disruption of life and work will be huge. This type of cancer is an absolute beast, but we will remain hopeful for a cure and steadfast in our belief that this will happen. With the support of our family, our friends, and our faith we can do most anything."
