Fundraiser for Nah Rebel by The People

Donation protected
This GoFundMe was established on behalf of Nah Rebel by his friends and The People. Nah is a leader and activist for the liberation of Black Lives. He fights for Black Trans Women, Black Queer people, BIPOC, all Trans people, Incarcerate people, unhoused populations, food insecurity and so much more. Despite being harmed on the street by police and white supremacists, he continues to show up day after day to keep doing the work and keep the movement going.

Nah is an incredibly passionate human who sees the light in everyone. He understands everyones experience, past and present and loves them hard; in spite of it. He fights hard for his community and amplifies anyone who needs help. He is the first person to promote someone's GFM or to organize and action when injustice has occurred. He is a born leader and leads us in this movement. He is a strong voice in our community and we look up to him and admire him for everything he says and does but most of all, because of who he is.

The funds that are detailed below are to cover the costs of medical expenses and procedures that have come as a result of harm he faced while in his activist role. He has been able to cover some of these costs himself but he should not have to pay one cent towards these medical expenses. We The People want to try and reimburse him for some of the expenses he has already paid for and make sure he is able to pay the monumental outstanding balance . Nah has repeatedly, consistently and lovingly shown up for us; now it's time we show up for him.

Costs:
Hospital bill- $1,875
First procedure- $650
Second (and last) procedure- $1,350
Total: $3,875

On December 11, 2020, in New York, Nah marched in solidarity with detainees at the Bergen County Jail who have been on hunger strike protesting their mistreatment at the hands of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). At about 4:00 PM that afternoon, a driver (a woman from Queens named Kathleen Castillo) rammed her car into the crowd of about 50 protesters leaving at least six people injured — including Nah, who was injured. None of the police officers present acted as first responders to check whether the injured protestors were bleeding, hurt, dead or alive. The physical pain and injuries from that incident that Nah sustained are accompanied by the psychological trauma of first having been viciously attacked by a fellow civilian who showed no concern for the life of those protesting, and then being abandoned by the authorities designated and paid by tax dollars to “protect and serve.” The emotional harm done by this double violence has made Nah’s recovery that much more challenging.

Nah was taken to the hospital where he received very little aid and was released with a large bill. He also needed two follow up medical procedures to help with injuries he has faced. He has already gone in for the first appointment and it waiting for the next procedure on March 12th. This is GFM is to cover the physical injuries he has undergone but does not minimize the emotional and phycological harm he has experienced.

We ask you to join us in showing up for Nah who never fails to show up for us. We love you, Nah!
