Fundraiser for Myanmar orphanage earthquake victims
Donation protected
Dear friends,
On Friday 28 March a 7.7 magnitude earthquake devastated Myanmar, followed by a series of aftershocks. The death toll is currently nearing 3,600 and expected to rise in the coming days as heavy rains lash down on affected regions, complicating relief efforts. Aid agencies have warned that the combination of rains and extreme heat could cause outbreaks of disease among survivors who are camping in the open. This disaster could not have come at a worse time for a country struggling under a military coup and civil war since February 2021, leaving over 3 million people displaced. The junta have continued their campaign of deadly airstrikes in the immediate aftermath, targeting civilian areas reeling from the earthquake.
I am raising funds for an orphanage in Naypyidaw run by my relatives, which my family have partnered with to support the staff and the 27 children they look after. They are currently sleeping outdoors in fear of further aftershocks, and as the building is in need of repairs. The most urgent need for them right now is food and clean water. Their water tank is broken so they can no longer draw water for themselves - fixing it will cost approx. £2000.
All funds raised will go towards fixing the tank to supply clean water to the orphanage, as well as food and medical supplies and other urgent necessities for victims of the earthquake. I would be deeply grateful for any amount that you feel able to donate, or if you are able to share this fundraiser. It makes a monumental difference to their lives and means the world to us.
With love and solidarity,
