Fundraiser for Luis Baez's Cancer Surgery

Hello everyone!

I would like to share a short summary and a detailed story (which can be found at the bottom) of my 30 year old cousin who has been battling cancer for 3 years now.

At 27 years old, my cousin started experiencing high fevers, dramatic weight loss, body aches, etc.

He visited his doctor and had a variety of different diagnosis; from a Urinary infection and a Kidney infection to Tuberculosis and Cancer.

After finally realizing that what my cousin had was cancer, a surgery was performed on one of his testes. Only to find out that no tumor ever existed in the area.

My cousin was forced to go elsewhere with an Oncologist who had a good reputation and was highly recommended.  He was diagnosed correctly in 2017 with Stage 3 Extragonadal germ cell cancer. He underwent a biopsy in order to remove a tumor for analyses. He was treated through chemotherapy. The chemotherapy was done in the following matter due to his young age and the severity of the cancer; 5 consecutive days for 8 hours a day receiving chemo, resting 2 weeks and repeating the process 4 times. Treatment was a success and   he was cancer-free. Unfortunately, in 2018 his cancer came back and he needed to undergo treatment once again. This time, a bit more aggressive. The chemo was done in the same cycle as mentioned before but it was a much more powerful dose. I had a chance to experience this stage in his life with him by his side and was a horrible scene. He experienced pain he will never wish upon anyone. Fortunately, he won the battle and was cancer-free once again.

Recently however, during his normal checkups, a cyst has been detected attached to his Aorta vein; right by the renal vein. The cyst or tumor was detected before but this time it grew. It needs to be removed as having this in that area can cause a hemorrhage in the future. My cousin has health insurance and has the option of undergoing surgery, but at the public health hospital in Mexico. Unfortunately, in Mexico, these hospitals tend to lack the necessary hygiene to prevent viruses and bacteria to not flow freely. It is a risk to have this surgery in these facilities; especially during COVID-19. He will have surgery performed at a private institute which he will have to pay out of pocket.

My family would like to ask everyone out there for help. The surgery sums up to be $7500 USD. We understand that it is hard to be able to donate during these hard economic times. But we sincerely appreciate any donation that is sent our way to cover this cost. If no donation can be made that is absolutely OK! We please ask that you share this with family and friends. But most importantly, we ask for prayers and best wishes towards my cousin before his surgery.

I thank you so much for taking the time to read this summary and/or the detailed story attached. The warmest regards and blessings to you and your family. THANK YOU!
