Fundraiser for Lee Ashley
Donation protected
This page for one of my dearest friends, Lee Ashley Xhakollari. Lee underwent her 1st brain surgery for an Oligodendroglioma (Big word for her type of brain tumor) in September of 2013. She began having seizures much more frequently over the last year and, unfortunately, imaging confirmed that the tumor had grown back and was even bigger this time. She underwent her 2nd surgery at NYU Langone on March 3, 2020...JUST before COVID-19 took over the hospital! Unlike her 1st surgery, she requires post-surgical chemotherapy and radiation. Lee has 6-8 months of chemotherapy ahead of her followed by radiation.
As most of us know, hair loss is common with chemo. What I didn't realize is how EXPENSIVE a good wig is! They range from $3-5,000! Lee's husband Erion, is in the service industry and was unemployed for many months due to the pandemic which adds to their financial struggle.
Lee lost much of her hair after only the 1st cycle of chemo and will continue to lose it throughout the chemo. Then, an estimated 25% of her remaining hair will be lost to radiation. As you can imagine, the loss of hair for a female patient can take an emotional toll on them...especially when you started with SUCH a beautiful head of hair. She now has the added financial stress of purchasing a wig (one that isn't made for a Cher Halloween Costume haha).
Lee is one of the most selfless humans I've ever met. Despite being fresh post-op from BRAIN SURGERY, during the COVID-19 crisis, Lee Ashley set up a fundraiser to help feed healthcare workers/support small business restaurants. With the help of a few other friends, $10,000 was raised! As a nurse manager, this money fed my staff a number of times so this is the least I could do for her!
Please consider donating...there is literally no amount too small (or big ;-)). I know that she will be so appreciative!!!
