Hey yall,
Many of you may recall how determined Lauren has been in recent weeks introducing new artistic work. What happened? Life…and nearly death.
On Wednesday December 2, 2020, she was involved in a car crash. It was actually a hit and run with the other driver going about 60 miles per hour. Lauren sustained major injuries requiring emergency surgery the next day to treat a break in the biggest bone in her pelvis, her left arm, and three fractured vertebrae in the lower spine. She spent four days in the ICU without the benefit of any visitors due to COVID-19 protocols. Her best friend’s car was also totaled. Recently released from the hospital and essentially bed bound she is only able to use a walker to get to the bathroom. Lauren is facing a recovery time of 8-12 weeks, which will include intensive physical therapy.
At the time of the accident, she did not have health insurance and while she will have partially retroactive coverage in January it won’t cover all medical bills or loss of income/ the financial implications of her inability to work while she recovers. Unfortunately, her best friend also did not have comprehensive car insurance. And so, I have decided to start this fundraising campaign for her in order to bridge the gaps. Even with all of this she’s expressed how grateful she is just to be alive and extends that gratitude to the medical professionals at University of Chicago and her family and friends who have supported and centered her. Thank you to all of you who have taken the time out of your day to listen and assist her in these trying times.
