Help! Flight Free needs land for Tree Nurseries

Fundraiser for 1 acre of land to establish tree nurseries for indigenous tree species as Climate Action

I am Isaac, Founder and Global Program Officer at Flight Free Projects, we would like to establish a sustainable, cost effect and high potential negative emission agro-forestry initiative as our climate action. Since 2012, I have been motivated to create space for young people from interlinked disciplines to utilize their skillsets to solve challenges to sustainability. We are agents of change and one way to attain this is through giving life to youth led initiatives. To complement the momentum from movements like Fridays for Future and other initiatives fronting Climate Action we have a request for you.

Support Flight Free Projects relentlessly to sustainably implement a tree planting program that will engage smallholder farmers in different agroforestry systems for food security, biodiversity strengthening and emission reduction.

The initiative was founded to enhance mitigation and adaptation to climate change for community resilience. Tagged,” trees for a green livelihood”. The team found redirecting money saved from no or a limited number of flights by international partners to supporting green initiatives and directly using the established initiative to contribute to carbon sequestration as vital to Climate action.

The heart of the concept is to interest smallholder farmers with planting multipurpose indigenous trees, growing them in our nurseries, support planting of preferred tree seedlings at Smallholders’ land under memorandum of understanding not to cut the trees for 5-10 years or based on their maturation time, and offer certificates for purchase of trees planted in bundles to individuals, institutions, companies and sustainability organizations. The funds collected from certificates of purchase for trees are directly used to sustain the day-to-day operations, purchase of inputs for tree nurseries, and extension services to farmers.
It is important that we own an area to grow the tree seedlings in nurseries to avoid unnecessary costs from third parties and allow room for flexibility since preferred indigenous trees are grown on the Smallholder farmers’ land using the most suitable agroforestry system.

Our goal: To raise up to €10,672 in 4 months for 1 acre of Land to set up tree nurseries, storage unit, and an agroforestry systems demo.

To sequester carbon in the atmosphere, there is a need to restore and strengthen the potential of carbon reduction through tree planting as soon as possible. This will strengthen the existing carbon sinks and reduce the impacts of climate variability in the program areas and beyond. Other co-benefits like improved soils and microclimate support food security because of the multi-purpose trees that will be used for food, fodder, and as an alternative source of income.

What is our intended impact?
  • 25000 indigenous trees planted on 188 hectares of smallholders' land per year.
  • 564 Smallholder farmers benefiting from the tree seedlings, extension services offered by the initiative per year.
  • Estimated 15,000 tCO2 as the total carbon sequestered over a period of 10 years at 80 tCO2/ha with estimated 75,000 trees planted in first 3 years.

Today everyone has an opportunity to save the environment and not to lose the little of it that is left. On behalf of the entire Flight Free Project team, we need your support within the stipulated time (Four months) to make this initiative more sustainable and take advantage of the next rain season for massive tree planting. Donate generously and follow the provided links to be part of the initiative or share it with your friend(s) and family.

Thank you for heeding to nature’s cry!
