As many of you know, Jess and Donny are two of my best friends. 3 months ago they were helping me (as they have many times in the past) move back to Ohio with absolutely no inclination of what would turn out to be everyone's worst nightmare. Donny has been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma that has metastasized to his brain. He went to the hospital Dec.15 for a multitude of symptoms. They determined after running tests and blood work his gallbladder was full of sludge and needed removed. Once he should have been recovered and ready to discharge it became alarming that his head was hurting to the point morphine would not help. MRI was done and it was found he had 19 masses in his brain. Also a mass by his mediastinum, and a mass on his adrenal gland. He was sent downtown and had a biopsy done of the mass by his mediastinum. After what felt like a very long 10 days it was determined it was in fact stage 4 melanoma. Fast forward to today, he has completed 10 rounds of radiation and been on chemo for 2 full days. He is no longer able to function like normal. Due to all the swelling in his brain he has become very confused. He was having seizures from the swelling and has been put on medication for that. He needs full around the clock care and supervision. He can no longer feed himself, use the restroom without assistance, rationalize or even verbalize his needs. Currently, he is so malnourished they are considering a feeding tube temporarily to give him proper nutrition and to also help give him his medication. He is now so confused he is chewing his pills thinking they are food. The oncologist is hopeful that the medication he is on will shrink these tumors and get him back to as close as normal as possible. He is just 40 years young, with a wife and children whom love him dearly. This has caused a lot of stress and hardship on the family. We ask that if you can, please donate to help the family take care of all his medical needs and financial needs as he is out of work and Jess is facing an unpaid medical leave. This is a trying time for the family and anything will help, and most of all they need your prayers. Thank you so much, and God bless.
