Fundraiser for Juvy's Battle with Colon Cancer

Hello, my family and I are reaching out to help raise funds for my sister’s medical bills while she fights stage 4 colon cancer.

In November of 2020 Juvy went to the ER with abdominal pain. After conducting scans she was informed that the doctors had found 3 masses. One the size of a grapefruit on her colon which had metastasized to her bladder and liver. She had to undergo emergency surgery due to the severity of the pain. The largest tumor on her colon was removed along with a portion of her colon. The biopsy of that tumor was sent out and diagnosed as colon cancer, qualifying as stage 4 due to the tumors located in her liver and lymph nodes.

As of December 2020, Juvy has been receiving chemo at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Then in February 2021 she was fired after working for her employer for 9 years because they did not want to keep her employed after the expiration of her FMLA. Supporting herself and her daughter with limited income, not only does she have to battle for her health, but for her financials as well. With lapsed credit card bills and paying for Cobra health insurance, which is 3x more than it was with her employer, making ends meet has become overwhelming.

This tiny little woman who has been like a second mother to me due to our age difference (20 years), is the most lively soul that I’ve had the pleasure of growing up with. Everyone that has been blessed to have a relationship with her knows her energy is uplifting.    

Receiving the call while I was away on a trip was like a flashback to finding out our mother had a brain tumor 6 years ago. The feeling of dread and helplessness is a feeling that doesn’t shed. I would trade places with her in heartbeat. She is tough and a fighter just like our mother.

To help her financially through this time would not only provide her with the best care possible but would also improve her mental health while she battles stage 4 colon cancer.

Memorial Sloan Kettering bills:
Oncologist biweekly $400 each visit
Chemotherapy biweekly $800 each treatment
Disconnect Services biweekly $350 each
 
Cobra Insurance: $1,032.68 per month

She will receive biweekly chemo till June and more likely continue on after this round of cycles.
