Fundraiser for Josh Desjardins
Donation protected
A little over 2 weeks ago Josh went to Midcoast Hospital Emergency with worsening symptoms of what he had been told was the flu. Josh was very sick with high fevers, dehydration and low oxygen levels even while on oxygen. A chest x-ray showed severe pneumonia and because his oxygen levels were not improving even while on oxygen the doctors sedated him and put a breathing tube in and he was life flighted to Maine Medical Center. Within the first few days at Maine Medical Center his lungs continued to deteriorate and after both lungs collapsed and chest tubes were not effective in keeping them inflated, on New Year's Eve he was placed on a ECMO machine which does the work of his lungs. Because of how damaged his lungs are, they may not repair themselves, so the doctors are gearing up for plan B, which would be lung transplants. He will be leaving Maine Med very soon to be taken out of state (possibly Boston, Pennsylvania or North Carolina) where they do lung transplants. There, they will continue with the existing care in hopes that his lungs heal and, if not, then he will be assessed to see if he is a candidate for a lung transplant. As soon as he is moved, a family member has to stay in the same city that he is in for the entirety of his stay. Josh's bills are mounting very quickly. He will need all the help he can get in paying for these and the family will also need assistance in the cost of traveling to and staying in a different state with him.
