Fundraiser for John (JK) Gulley

On Thursday November 2nd, our dad John (JK) Gulley sustained a critical neck injury in a freak accident during a game of pickup hockey. While playing goalie, dad was down on his knees during a scramble in the crease searching for the puck in his feet and, with his head down, did not see the attacking player lose his balance completely and slide into his head at top speed on a fresh sheet of ice. The resulting collision compressed dad's neck and, we would later learn, fracture his neck in four places and dislodge the vertebrae. Despite the horrific nature of this injury, we are very lucky that dad is conscious, breathing on his own, and able to walk and move his limbs and extremities... This could have been so, so much worse.

Dad is now at home recovering in a neck-stabilizing brace all day and night, awaiting word as to whether he will need surgery. He is confined to bedrest with minimal movement and unable to work for possibly 12 weeks or more. As a self-employed musician and guitar instructor, dad does not benefit from extended health or medical benefits. He has a wife and young daughter at home for emotional support, but with today's cost of living crisis, the financial strain will be very real and potentially devastating to their wellbeing. We are appealing to all of our family and friends and extended community to reach into their hearts and provide any monetary support they can to help dad, Tami, and Kathryn weather this stormy period. Any contribution you are able to provide will go directly to dad and Tami to help with their rent and groceries and to free up some of Tami's time to continue assisting with dads recovery.
