Fundraiser for injured Ukrainian cat Nika

Hi my name is Anne Nuding and I am fundraising for Nika the cat and the Mazurenko family. Nika is a much loved family pet of the Mazurenko family who have been living in my family home with my father since May. Nika came to Ireland in March with the Mazurenko family when the war in Ukraine broke out. Since their arrival to our home in Balinteer they have brought joy and love in abundance and have helped my dad to find happiness again after being left alone in the house since my mother's untimely passing on the 31st of December 2020.

The below message is from Andrii Mazurenko detailing their story and what has happened to Nika.

My name is Andrii Mazurenko. I’m a psychologist from Ukraine. Because of the war, my family had to leave the country and look for a protection in Ireland. It’s myself, my wife, two children and two lovely cats.

We came to Dublin in the beginning of March and received temporary protection status. But we not used to receive money for nothing and we decided to live decently life in Ireland.

We refused social payments and social housing, started to work and pay taxes. We want to be helpful for the country that supports us so much.

I can’t work as psychologist in Ireland because I don’t have local education, so I entered Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences on Psychology Master’s Cours. I still work with Ukrainian people who are in hard mental situation, but I do it for free. In Dublin started to work with Dublin Simon Community, my wife works as translator in Intro office, children go to school, son plays Gaelic football and Hurling. We love Ireland very much, feel great here and super safe. But one of our cats Nika got an accident. We found here near the house with two broken legs. We don’t know what happened, maybe she was hit by the car, maybe she fell down from the roof, but she was in very bad condition.

We had to make a serious surgery. There was a high risk of amputation but thanks to great doctors of DSPСA Veterinary Hospital both legs were saved. They made us a good discount and we are very thankful for it. It was 872 euro total. But Nika’s right leg got worse and she needed one more surgery. With discount it’s 700 euro. Of course it’s a very good price for it, but for us it’s pretty difficult to pay even this money, because we just started our life in Ireland and our budget is pretty low for now.

Nika is a lovely cat. Every person who met her falls in love with her. And her purring became a legend of all Village Vets. So we would be very thankful for your help in saving Nika’s legs and giving her a chance to run and jump again.
